Basis/Philosophy

At Whippletree we are passionate about timberframing, including design, cutting, and raising of new frames, as well as the stabilization or restoration of older frames. Through teaching, we have the opportunity to pass along the traditions of the craft to the generations to come. Our main stylistic influence is Ontario barn framing, looking mainly at barns built between 1800 and 1900.

Background/Intention
Whippletree post and beam has been hosting timber frame/post and beam courses since 2003. The intention at our workshops is to provide a good learning environment with an accent on positive feedback from instructors, and time for the whole class to share information. The combination of our small class sizes with the use of handtools for the workshops, helps to create a course that is quiet, focused and relaxed.

Formats

Whippletree timber frame classes are held in our East Otonabee Workshop near Keene, Ontario, Canada,
OR at your site in the case of a travelling workshop.
